Full Description
PEFS - Ightham fissures: rich accumulations of Pleistocene fossils (mostly mammals, birds and molluscs), no record of any Palaeolithic artefacts. Site intensively studied in late 19th century (1, 2, 3), although original findspot now quarried away (4). There were various sub-vertical fissures of varying size in the Kentish Rag (Lower Greensand, Hythe Beds) infilled with fossiliferous Pleistocene deposits, containing mixed material dating from the Early through to Late Pleistocene; other fissures may still survive in unquarried areas.
