Full Description

PEFS - Marden railway cutting: mammoth bones and teeth from cutting through mapped patch of terrace gravel (T2), found in blue marl at base of 6m thickness of gravel in mid-19th century (1, 2, 3); was probably a single skeleton, no duplication of body parts, which included two molars, a tibia and parts of an ilium. Date is uncertain, probably later Middle Pleistocene (c. 300,000-200,000 BP), but could be earlier, or from the Last Glacial.
