Full Description

An axehead and flint arrowhead found by Major Powell-Cotton in 1924 in possible pit dwelling cut into solid chalk.(1)

No excavation at the siting given above is known of at Quex Park. It is possibly a misreference to an excavation in 1924 at TR 2921 6699, when Major Powell-Cotton found 'animal bones, snail shells, a few RB sherds, a small flint flake and an LBA sherd (but no axehead or arrowhead) in a pit at Monkton Farm. The site is shown on a plan at Quex Park and falls in a field which is now under crop; the pit cannot now be identified. The finds are in the Powell-Cotton Museum.
