Monument record TR 15 NW 2587 - 1st to 3rd century Roman occupation, 49 St Peter's Street

Summary

Archaeological excavation carried out in 2015 found evidence of 1st to 3rd century Roman occupation. An artificial platform was build in the 1st century to support a building comprising a clay floor and occupation debris. Later in the century the floor was raised again and a metalled surface laid, perhaps as a yard of a nearby building. A final phase of activity from the early/mid 2nd century to the mid 3rd century saw a sequence of clay floor and occupation deposits, almost certainly within a room in a building.
