Full Description
One definate and another probable medieval watercourses were identified during evaluation trenching undertaken on land off Cockreed Lane, New Romney. They were identified in 5 of the 9 evaluation trenches positioned across the site. They comprised shallow linear features with peaty clay and clay-silt fills, one of which produced small amounts (ten sherds) of medieval ceramic material with a broad date-range of c. 1150 – c. 1350. These features were all approximately north-south aligned and channel-like. One (from which the potsherds were recovered) contained a mixture of clay-silt, peats and intermediate humic clay-silts. It was interpreted with confidence as a medieval watercourse. (1) (information summarised from source)
