Full Description

A Coast Defence/Chain Home Low (CD/CHL) radar station was established at Warden Point during the Second World War to detect enemy shipping in the lower Thames estuary or low-flying aircraft. A War Office listing shows that it existed as a temporary/underdeveloped station by May 1941 and was numbered M69. By February it was a permanent station, numbered M146. Its remains may be seen below the cliffs, having been a casualty of coastal erosion.

Not far away, a 20-ft. slab ‘sound mirror’ was built earlier in the days of acoustic detection methods. There are fragmentary remains on the beach, this too having become a casualty of cliff collapse.
