Sand, presumed to have been redeposited during the great storm of 1287 was revealed at the base of all trenches during an archaeological evaluation carried out at the former site of Southlands School, New Romney, Kent. This was recorded at the lowest point in trench 5 to the west of the site at 5.19mOD rising to 7.13mOD in Trench 1 to the east. This followed the general overlying topography of the study area which comprised a large bank running parrallel to the purported Medieval coastline. This deposit was found to be at least 1.4m thick though its base was not encountered. (1) (Information summarised from source)
