The partial remains of a minimum of ten structure were revealed in section during a watching brief which was carried out ahead of the redevelopment of a site at the junction of Spitalfield Lane and Sussex Road in New Romney, Kent. Structure 'C' appeared to belong to the earliest phase of construction at the site. It was probably rectangular in plan measuring at least 5m (though probably 10m) NW/SE and 5m NE/SW. It was aligned parrallel to Spitalfield Lane (likley fronted onto it) and was positioned within house plot A (now Elsworthy) The structural elements revealed comprised a clay floor and one post hole.
