Full Description

'The EAGLE transport, Whitron, from Martinico, struck against Ramsgate Pier Head, and stove her side; since grounded on the bank, and is full of water.' (1)

Source (2) describes vessel as a troop ship; in contemporary usage, the term `transport' could indicate a vessel used for the transport of government stores or munitions, as well as troops, although the context of troop transport is likely to be correct, given the Caribbean theatre of operations during the Napoleonic wars.
