Full Description

The possible World War II Anderson shelter at 8 St Martin’s Place, Canterbury was excavated as part of an archaeological evaluation in advance of development work at the site. The feature is suggested either to be part of an Anderson shelter or represent a soakaway. Other features at the site included evidence for post-medieval quarrying.

The possible Anderson shelter comprised a steep-sided feature associated with a fill of crushed sandstone and concrete on top of corrugated iron sheeting. Red brick rubble was found close to the feature, however, it is unclear whether this was associated with it. No finds were associated with the feature. (1)
