Full Description
Roman finds and features were excavated in 2016 at land adjacent to Blackman House. The Roman material from a watching brief on geotechnical work at the site revealed evidence for Roman dump deposits, demolition debris, and a possible clay floor or bedding for a tiled floor. The finds included tile fragments and a piece of scorched Romann tile.
Built structure(s) dating from the Roman period were excavated from sites adjacent to the Blackman House site, suggesting that the area may have been a focus for Roman activity.
Later activity - sub-Roman or Anglo-Saxon - included the development of a light metalling and tread (TR 15 NW 2612). (1)
