Full Description
Possible sub-Roman or Anglo-Saxon metalling at land adjacent to Blackman House, Canterbury was excavated in 2016 as part of a watching brief on geotechnical work. This took the form of light metalling and a tread, identified in two of the boreholes at the site. This it thought to have potentially formed during demolition work during the Roman period, however it may also represent a later phase of occupation from the sub-Roman or Anglo-Saxon periods.
Earlier activity has been identified at the site in the form of Roman dump and demolition deposits, alongside a floor surface also dating from the Roman period (TR 15 NW 2611).(1)
