Summary

According to Hasted, Frazer Honeywood bought the ruins of the 11th century Abbey in 1740. He died in 1764. He incorporated parts of the ruins into his 18th century house and re-used building materials from the original buildings. The north wall of his house is built on the arcade of the cloister which had been re-built in the 13th centuryThe cloister arcade has been blocked-up and small windows inserted. In the reconstructed upper part of the north wall, several 13th/14th windows have been inserted and there is a 13th century doorway at each end. The drainheads are dated 1754 and 1808. The rest of the building is of the 18th century. The east and south ranges are now the living quarters of the Anglican Benedictine sisters. See also TQ 65 NE 47
