Summary

An 18th Century house TQ 65 NE 46 has an earlier building attached to it. A modern wall stands on the line of the west wall but other parts of the building suggest 11th century with a possible reconstruction in the 13th century. The 18th century rebuilding may have used original material.

Full Description

[TQ 68255769] The western range has been entirely destroyed but a modern wall probably stands on the line of its west wall. The range seems to have run somewhat obliquely and this, together with the existing south cloister's date, and the evidence of a small doorway to the western range visible in the church tower, supports a probable early 13th c. reconstruction date. (1) A building at the southern end, adjoining the 18th c. house (TQ 65 NE 46 and 47) contains much original material, but may be a rebuilding of the 18th c. Here are several blocked-up apertures, and there are square-headed stone-mullioned (?16th c.) windows in the west end wall.No traces remain of the west range to the north. (2)
