Monument record TQ 65 NE 50 - Medieval courtyard, St Mary's Abbey, West Malling
Summary
When the land was cleared in the 18th century for rebuilding, it was reported that two courtyards existed. One was the cloister but the other may have been an irregular courtyard formed by the guesthouse and other attached buildings. There is also the possibility that a courtyard on the south of the cloister, as part of the infirmary or the abbesses' apartment, may have been destroyed.

Full Description
[Centred at TQ 68256765 or TQ 68245769] It is stated, apparently froman account of the clearing of the ground in the mid-18th c., that the old building of the Abbey consisted of two courts. One was, of course, the cloister, but the other may have been an irregular court formed by the guesthouse and attached buildings or by a court on the south of the cloister, totally destroyed, in connection with an infirmary or abbesses' apartments.
