Full Description

`The JENNY, Musgrove, from London to Weymouth, is driven on shore near Deal Castle and it is feared will be lost. The cargo is expected to be saved.' (1)

`During the violent gale of wind on Saturday night, 3 vessels parted from their anchors in the Downs, and drove ashore, viz. His Majesty's armed ship HANNIBAL...a large brig...between Deal and Walmer Castle; and the JENNY, Musgrave, a collier brig, at the entrance of Sandwich Haven. The later is entirely gone to pieces (cargo saved)...' (3)

[The position of loss as given in source (1) may have been confused with that of the "large brig" mentioned in source (3).]

NB: Source (2) expresses the date of loss as a reporting date of 27-NOV-1804, based on the issue date of source (1). This vessel appears to have been lost in the same gale that drove HMS HANNIBAL (q.v.) ashore, i.e. between 16 and 17-NOV-1804.

Master: Musgrove (1)(2); Musgrave (3)
