`The ESPERANCE, Thompson; the FLOWER OF EDINBRO', Mason; the WELCOME FRIEND, Walker; all belonging to Lynn, and from Swansea to London; and the ALERT...were chaced [sic] on shore in St. Margaret's Bay, near Dover, on Monday evening, by five French privateers, and it is feared they will be lost.'
