Full Description
An Anglo-Saxon possible sunken-featured structure was excavated in 2004 at 20 Love Lane. The feature was present in the form of a deposit containing mortar, oyster shell, chalk, flint, and a single sherd of pottery dating between 875-1050 AD. Further deposits were located above this layer, which were also suggested to date from the Anglo-Saxon period, however, no finds were associated with them. The feature has been interpreted as a possible sunken featured building or cellar, or potentially as a pit. Evidence for Anglo-Saxon occupation has been revealed though excavation at other sites in the local area, suggesting that this feature was not an isolated example. (1)
