Full Description

(TQ 61225677) Site of palaeolithic find. (1) Note by Benj. Harrison 11.12.1892, recording finding of one palaeolithic flake on 'the Mount House slope patch' [of implement-bearing gravel] (2) Proto-Chellean handaxe of exceedingly coarse workmanship from top of Black Horse Hill, Borough Green. (Probably applies, Black Horse Lanepasess close by siting of authy 1) (3) The Harrison collection of flints has been largely dispersed, only a few selected examples being held by the Maidstone Museum. A MS catalogue of the collection, in the museum, lists the finds by period and place name, with no indication of type of implement or exact provenance. The siting given by authority 1 should be considered as only approximate. (4) TQ 613568 Findspot of two Lower Palaeolithic handaxes in Folkstone Beds geology. (5)
