Full Description
Agricultural linear features were excavated at land to the rear of 39 Cossington Road, Canterbury, during an evaluation in 2016. 3 parallel linear features were identified at the site, these are suggested to be related to an agricultural regime at the site. The features were aligned NW-SE and measured between 1.1+m-1.67m in width, and 0.75-0/9m in depth. One possible interpretation of these features is that they represented the planting of linear rows of fruit trees during a deep cultivation regime in the 18th century. The area is depicted as fields and enclosures in a late 18th century map. (1)
