Full Description

Layers of medieval (and possibly post-medieval) agricultural soil were excavated at 38b St Dunstan's Street during an evaluation in 2012. These layers was located overlying Roman metalled surfaces (TR 15 NW 2410). The precise date of the agricultural layers is unknown, however, one of the uppermost contained mid 13th-14th century pottery and medieval peg-tile within its fill. Other finds associated with the soil layers include fragments of oyster shell, and flecks of charcoal.

An unidentified feature infilled with flint fragments, chalk, oyster shell and medieval peg-tile, possibly dating to the medieval or post-medieval period was also present at the site. This feature cut through one of the medieval agricultural layers. Its dimensions are not recorded. (1)
