Full Description

`Dover 26th October: The LUNA, Carthey, and the ATLAS, -, both loaded colliers, were wrecked yesterday on Hythe Beach.' (1)

`The brigs ATLAS and LUNA, of Sunderland, were totally wrecked off Hythe on Tuesday morning: the ATLAS had part, and the LUNA the whole, of her cargo on board.' (2)

NB: That the vessels were on the beach at Hythe and that the ATLAS had part of her cargo on board, suggests that both bessels were originally beached at Hythe to discharge their cargo, as was the usual practice for colliers on the south coast.

Master: Carthey (1)

Date of Loss Qualifier: A
