Full Description
`Particulars of losses and accidents during a violent gale at NW on Monday night and Tuesday morning...The SNAKE, Fairburn, from Sunderland to Guernsey, was driven on shore near Walmer and bilged.' (1)
Wind conditions at Deal on the 12th: `NW, moderate, after a severe gale last night and this morning.' (1)
`The SNAKE, Fairburn, from Sunderland to Guernsey, which was driven on shore near Walmar [sic] 11th instant, was got off on Wednesday, and carried into Ramsgate almost a complete wreck.' (2)
`The brig SNAKE, from Sunderland to Guernsey, with coals, was driven on the main near Walmer, on Monday night; the cargo is landing, and should the weather moderate, the whole will be saved; the vessel bilged, and is full of water.' (3)
`To be sold by auction, for the benefit of the underwriters (by R Fell) at Messrs Nicholson and Horn's Dock, the High End of South Shields, on Tuesday the 18th of March inst. at 10 o'clock in the forenoon: The hull of the brig SNAKE, burthen 8 keels or thereabouts, as she then lies in the said dock, together with her lower masts, topmasts, bowsprit, and standing rigging.
`Immediately after which, the whole of the materials and stores of the said brig will be sold in lots; they consist of anchors, kedges, cables, warps, towline, running rigging, yards, booms, spars, boat, sails, etc. etc. etc. South Shields, March 12th, 1817.' (4)
