Full Description

`The JANE, Wicks, and the BETSEY...coal laden, in endeavouring to get into Ramsgate during the gale on Saturday, missed the pier, ran on shore and went to pieces; one man drowned.' (1)

Wind conditions at Deal on the 7th SW, `a heavy gale'. (1)

`Ramsgate, March 8. The JANE, Wake, and BETSEY, Gartry, both from Sunderland, in coming into this harbour yesterday, went to the back of the East Head and sunk, and soon after went to pieces. Crews all saved.' (3)
