Monument record TQ 65 NW 15 - Chapel (site of) at Comp

Summary

Hasted mentioned ruins of an ancient building at Comp. It was supposed to have been the chapel-at-ease to the church at Leybourne. An article in Arch. Cant at the beginning of the 20th century described it as the chapel for the hamlets of Great and Little Compe. The building has long since been demolished and there are no signs to indicate a chapel site. There are no items of rubble or stone fragments. No foundations have been unearthed during ploughing.
