`The brig SOPHIA ALERTINA, from Seville to London, is on shore near Sandwich; also another vessel, name unknown, but are in hopes will be got off.' (1)

It is unclear from the phrasing of the text whether the recovery refers only to the latter of the two aforementioned vessels, or to both. The vessel may be identifiable with a vessel lost at Burbo Bank (q.v.) later in the year.

The name of the vessel has additionally been expressed in the more conventional spelling SOPHIA ALBERTINA.
