A small assemblage of prehistoric pottery with a date range of c1500-600 BC, and other finds which included worked flint butchered animal bone, daub and a possible whetstone, was recovered from the fills of a natural depression during an archaeological evaluation carried out on land between 47 and 71 Monton Street, Monkton. The finds occurred in the upper fills at differing depths the material was described as rather small and probably mostly residual. The presence of the material implies that this natural depression was more exposed in this period than it is today and that it had been used as a convenient place to discard domestic refuse, originating from the settlement to the west.
