Monument record TQ 65 NW 23 - Possible site of Roman cemetery

Summary

A large collection of Roman pottery said to have come from a cemetery was found in Pascall's Brick Fields in 1931. Some of the pottery is in Maidstone Museum.

Full Description

[Marginal] Platt - A great amount of Roman pottery, presumably from a cemetery, has been unearthed in Pascall's Brick Fields during 1931. (1) Area TQ 62145777. Sited to Pascall's Brick and Tile pits, north-east of Borough Green, as shewn on O.S.6" of 1936. (2) Pascalls Brick works has been derelict many years and its pits now house an engineering works. There is a quantity of miscellaneous Ro. coarse pottery sherds in Maidstone Museum "from Platt brickfield" but nothing more about the site is known.(3)
