[TQ 6190 5904] Human Remains and Iron spearhead found AD 1907 (NAT) (1) At the pumping station at White Field, between Wrotham and Nepicar, Jutish burials have been discovered, and Mr. Harrison obtained an iron spearhead, a gold ornament, and a bronze brooch or buckle. Maidstone Museum records "skeletons with spearheads found 1907. One or more small brooches set with garnets, also ear-rings, knife, gold pendants, etc., in British Museum". The published site falls beside a private house called White Hill; the Mid Kent Water Branch pumping station (built c 1899) is at TQ 6200 5904; this apparent discrepancy could not be resolved. (2) TQ 619590. Inhumation burials. 1907 Human remains and an iron spearhead were found; also one or more small fibulae set with garnets found in an Anglo Saxon burial are recorded by Elgar on the margin of the 6" map. The site is on a slope, over 300'. 1920. At the pumping station at White Field, between Wrotham and Nepicar, skeletons were discovered and Harrison obtained an iron spearhead, a gold ornament, and a bronze brooch or buckle. (3)
