`Deal, Oct. 17. We experienced a heavy gale of wind last night and this morning from the WSW. 5 o'clock, more moderate.
`Dover, 17th Oct. It has blown excessive hard during the whole of last night and this day, and at noon it was accompanied with heavy rain, thunder, and lightning, which lasted for a considerable time....
`The AMITY, Hill, from Sunderland to Sandwich, sunk in Ramsgate Haven on Tuesday and it was feared would be totally lost.' (1)
