Full Description
Medieval wall foundations and deposits were excavated at 5 The Forrens, Canterbury during an evaluation in 2009. The medieval wall measured 0.46m in width and comprised roughly squared blocks of Caen stone and chalk with mortar bonding suggesting an early medieval date. A yard surface was located in close proximity to the wall, and comprised a surface of peg-tile, brick and Caen stone fragments, and grey mortar. The medieval wall foundations and deposits are thought to be related to medieval stables at the site.
Finds from the fills of later features at the site include four 14th-16th century Jetons - coins used on accountancy boards.
Later features at the site include a Victorian hot house and other post-medieval features, including refuse pits (TR 15 NE 2057). (1)
