Full Description

A post-medieval hot house/stove house was excavated at 5 The Forrens, Cathedral Precincts, Canterbury, during an evaluation in 2009. The structure comprised a series of red brick walls (including a dwarf wall), a floor, a brick drain, and associated pipes. Inclusions in the floor layer included peg-tile and brick. Fragments of glass and iron were also associated with these features.
The building is likely to be a lean-to greenhouse due to the presence of a series of corbels and iron brackets on the existing walls of 5 The Forrens. (1)
