`Margate, Oct. 1 [sic]. Between 1 and 2 o'clock this morning, a remarkably sudden gale of wind came on from the north-east, which in a few minutes increased to a perfect hurricane, and continued unabated till daylight...The first object of distress that presented itself was a vessel on shore upon the Nailand Rock; the crew were fortunately saved, but the tide flowing at the time, she drifted higher and higher, and now lies close under the cliff near the Sea Bathing Infirmary, with some scores of persons with carts and horses removing the cargo; her name is the GOOD INTENT regular trader between Cowes and London...'
