`On Tuesday and Wednesday nights, & yesterday morning, very heavy gales of wind were experienced.' (1)
`Deal 4th December: Last night about 9 o'clock it came on to blow very hard from SSW to SW, increasing with continued violence to a heavy gale, which lasted until nearly daylight, when the wind backed to the westward and moderated, although it has blown hard all day. The SOPHIE, Weiting, from London to Faro, in ballast, grounded on Sandwich Flats at 2pm, where she now lies a complete wreck; crew and stores saved.' (1)
