Full Description

(1) Of twenty-one trenches, two contained evidence for Late Iron Age/Early Roman occupation - trenches 3 and 4.

Two pits were also excavated from trench 3, one of which contained one sherd of Iron Age pottery whilst the second contained Early Roman pottery. The Iron Age pit had a diameter of 1.52m and a depth of 0.20m whilst the Roman pit had a diameter of 2.33m and a depth of 0.24m.

Trench 4: The ditch aligned North-West to South-East, from which only a single sherd of Iron Age pottery was excavated. Three pit were excavated in trench 4, all of which contained Iron Age finds. Two of the pits [4/004 and 4/008] was cut by the ditch. Pit [4/004] had a diameter of 1.88m and a depth of 0.34m, pit [4/008] had a diameter of 0.60m and a depth of 0.25m.
