Monument record TQ 87 SW 1195 - Earthworks of a post medieval sea wall can be seen on aerial photographs taken in 1947

Summary

The earthworks of a post medieval sea wall can be seen on aerial photographs taken in 1947. These earthworks once flanked the western end of Damhead Creek have now largely been destroyed by Kingsnorth power station. The longest earthwork, which has now been completely levelled defined the northern edge of the creek and ran for circa 430m. The shorter earthwork defined the southern side of the creek and could be traced for 190m. Part of this can still be seen as an earthwork on aerial photographs taken in 2003. These features were mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.
