`Deal, 4th March. Yesterday about 6pm it came on to blow excessively hard from the WNW to NW which about 7 increased to a perfect hurricane from NNE to NE, during which the ALICE, Robertson, from London for Jamaica, broke her windlass and drove on board the ship HARRIET, Hope, from Demerara, and carried away the foremast, bowsprit and main topmast of the latter. The ALICE, then with a lee tide, in a thick snow, and a tremendous sea, drove on the rocks near Kingsdown, where she is gone to pieces. The carpenter, steward and a boy drowned. Part of the cargo saved.' (1)

`Deal, 5th March. Part of the cargo of the ALICE, bound to Jamaica, has been saved and stored. The vessel is a complete wreck.' (2)
