Monument record TQ 87 SE 1259 - The earthworks of a post medieval sea wall

Summary

The earthworks of a post medieval sea wall can be seen on aerial photographs taken in 1946. This sea wall encircled an area approximately 900m by 650m. The railway line that ran north to All Hallows adapted part of this sea wall as a railway embankment. These banks, which were depicted on the 1864 Ordnance Survey map, were levelled during the construction of the post-war BP refinery on Grain It was mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.
