Full Description

TQ 648592. A paleolith of Levalloisian type, probably a knife with the broad edge retouched, was found in 1965 by D N Broadfoot during an emergency excavation of a Romano British site at Addington (TQ 65 NW 44). The implement is rectangular, and about 5.5 ins by 3.75 ins and probably dates to about 200,000 BC although some authorities might put it at perhaps 120,000 BC. It has been struck at one blow from a prepared core, with a faceted 'cupid's bow' butt and shows the negative bulb from a previous flake. The find spot is 9 miles south of the famous workshop site of such flakes at Baker's Hole, Northfleet(TQ 67 SW 48). (1)
