Full Description
A possible First World War coastal battery and associated range range finder located close to the shore opposite Grain Tower (NMR Monument: 418676). This site was mapped from RAF aerial photographs taken in 1942 as part of the the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape project. It is possible that the battery was in use during the Second World War. The site appears as a pair of irregular buildings c.4m x 5m set within a square fenced area centred at TQ 8921 7613 and are mapped on the 4th epoch Orndance Survey map of 1933. The building thought to be the range finder lies 20m to the north-west at TQ 8918 7613. (1)
