Full Description
Iron Age and Roman pottery was excavated at Nos 36-37 Stour Street in 1986. The Iron Age pottery assemblage is described in the 1986 report as "possibly the best group of Belgic pottery ever excavated in Canterbury". Early 1st century Roman fine ware imports were also excavated at the site. These finds are thought to indicate the presence of Iron Age occupation in the vicinity of the site, or a "principal crossing over the marshy ground" (from the original report, 1).
