Full Description
Roman tessellated floors and a mosaic panel were excavated in 1868 at or near to the site. The mosaic is described as having the central motif of a double-handled cantharus (cup). However, the precise location of these finds is unclear.
A Roman wall foundation and polychrome mosaic, was excavated at 49/53/54 Burgate Street, Canterbury in 1871. The wall foundation was aligned E-W and was excavated at a depth of 9ft below the ground surface. In another aera of the site, a poorly preserved polychrome mosaic which had been patched with red tesserae after partial subsidence. An urn of unknown function is also thought to have been excavated at the site. The site location is uncertain. (1)
