Full Description
Roman building remains were excavated at 1-6 South Close, The Precincts, Canterbury, during an evaluation in 1999. The building remains comprised a mortared stone wall, a thick clay floor surface, layers of mortar, and associated Roman tile thought to have originated from a tiled floor surface. The stone wall may have marked a boundary between two buildings during the Roman period. These features were identified in two boreholes during an augering survey.
Roman finds associated with the site include 15 pieces of tile, 8 pieces of brick, and Roman pottery. (1)
