Monument record TQ 77 SW 1133 - Earthwork remains of two possible conjoined incomplete rectilinear enclosures, west of Church Street
Summary
The earthwork remains of two possible conjoined incomplete rectilinear enclosures, possibly medieval or post medieval in date seen on the edge of Higham Marshes to the west of Church Street. The western enclosure is defined by a bank foming three incomplete sides with traces of an external ditch on the northern and eastern sides. It measures 28m across and at least 45m in length. The second enclosure is less complete and lies to the east. Both enclosures have been cut by the later railway embankment. These features were mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.
