Monument record TQ 77 SW 1135 - A possible medieval or post medieval boundary or causeway, Higham Marshes
Summary
A possible medieval or post medieval boundary or causeway seen within the reclaimed area of Higham Marshes enclosed within the counter wall constructed as a flood defence to the north of Church Street. The bank extends NW for 150m from the counter wall to the embankment of the later railway. It cannot be traced beyond the railway embankment to the north. The site appears a s broad low bank flanked by slight ditches. The site of a Benedictine Priory lies immediately to the south, but it is not clear if the bank is associated with this site. The embankment was mapped from Environment Agency lidar imagery as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.
