Monument record TQ 77 SE 1393 - Fragmented remains of a post medieval clay pit can be seen on aerial photographs taken in 1947
Summary
The earthworks of a 20th century clay pit can be seen on aerial photographs taken in 1947. The 1933 Ordnance Survey map depicts a tramway linking this clay pit to the brickworks to the south (NMR 1545288) but this had been removed by 1942 indicating that the clay pit had been abandoned by this date. Air photos taken in 2007 show the area as arable. The southern edge of the clay pit can be seen on lidar taken in the same year. It was mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.
