The earthwork remains of a post medieval clay pit serving a brickworks can be seen on aerial photographs taken in 1947. These excavations were situated to the north and east of Manor Farm and were centred on TQ 7480 7019. Circular structures, probably wash mills and a tramway belonging to the brickworks are depicted on the 1866 Ordnance Survey map and are situated within the clay pit. The faint cropmark of one of the three wash mills (6.8m in diameter) can be seen situated at TQ 7496 7007. A cropmark of a similarly shaped feature, though much bigger at 11.8m in diameter, is also visible at TQ 7491 7009. A further area of extraction was centred on TQ 7500 7019. This was not depicted by the Ordnance Survey before 1896, by which time the brick works had closed. Part of the site now sits beneath Anthony Way but much of the remaining area is now arable with one part of the clay pit surviving at TQ 7462 7017. This site was mapped form aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.(1-4)
