Full Description
Unidentified wreck of wooden barge of uncertain date, situated approximately 20m south of Gull Down Plantation in the inter-tidal zone, west of the marina. This wreck was recorded by the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office and can be seen on aerial photographs taken in 1952. These show the deck removed, revealing the hull framework. The remains of this wreck can still be seen on air photos taken in 2007 and terrestrial photographs in 2010. The wreckage cannot be precisely dated, but is characteristic of a number of Thames barges hulked, beached and abandoned from the late 19th to mid 20th centuries on either side of the Thames coastline.
