Maritime record TQ 87 NE 1154 - HMS Lenox, third rate ship of the line, 1756

Summary

1756 wreck of British Third Rate ship of the line which was scuttled as a breakwater at Sheerness at the end of her career, which indicates that she was hulked before sinking (her masts cut down, otherwise a navigational hazard). A wooden sailing vessel constructed of wood in 1678, she was rebuilt in 1701 and 1723. The LENOX was one of the fleet which sailed under Sir Cloudisley Shovell in 1707 but was fortunate to escape the ensuing disaster.
