Full Description
Linear banks centred at TQ 7936 7180, probably Medieval or Post Medieval sea defences, located about one kilometre east of Hoo St Werburgh slightly inland of the present bank of the Medway, have been mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. The features are similar to, and possibly associated with, linear banks just to the west and east, and others farther to the north. The sea defences comprise a fragmentary double bank about 198m long in total, following a slightly sinuous course from north west to south east (TQ 7926 7181 to TQ 7942 7174), ending adjacent to the present sea wall.
